Metabolic Syndrome, or Syndrome X Metabolic Syndrome, sometimes also called Metabolic Syndrome X was formerly called "Syndrome X." It is the same thing as Insulin Resistance Syndrome (IRS) which is now the most commonly used and accepted term for this multifaceted metabolic disorder. Prediabetes, was previously called Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG) sometimes still called Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) and can be classified as part of the larger disorder, Insulin Resistance Syndrome, but it is not the same thing as IRS.
