Insulin pump tubing

Back to search index

Definition:  Tubing (in relation to the use of insulin pumps).  Tubing is a small, flexible, medical hose that is used to connect an insulin pump to a cannula.  The cannula is inserted under the skin and insulin can then be administered through the tubing from the pump to the cannula.

Tubing is designed for individual cannulas so it is important to have your doctor or insulin pump representative help you chose the correct supplies.

In some cases, the tubing will be separate from the cannula and will need to be connected to additional tubing that stems from the cannula (this is easy to do).  Other tubing sets come so that they attach directly to the cannula.
