Diet Reviews and Information

This is a for-profit information site where consumers can submit short articles rating programs and centers. Bear in mind that information submitted to this site is by persons who may be opinionated.

However, there is a long list of diets and programs discussed that if nothing else, will give you broard information about centers and programs that may help you to ask the right kinds of questions before signing contracts.

About the Program

LA Weight Loss Centers are supplement oriented.  Their program involves a flexible eating plan that is augmented by purchasing their products and supplements.

See their site for how they compared themselves to other program plans.

Drawbacks and Considerations

The program price is steep; probably one of the most expensive ways to go.  You need to buy food products (sometimes in advance) for which there is no refund policy.  I read several reports of facilities closing and although there were no other nearby locations for clients, no refunds were offered.  They are also notorious for using "used-car" sales pressure tactics and "bait and switch" marketing to get you in the door on coupons, then offer you a different "better" program.

Some of the supplements and products are high in sugars and those with diabetes probably should not be on their program.  If you experience medical troubles on their program supposedly you can get out of a contract with a doctor's note, or, at least they will tell you this.  However, read the fine print before signing and contract with LA Weight Loss, all refunds may be entirely at their discretion offering you little legal recourse.  Make sure BEFORE signing that what is told to you by their recruiter is exactly what is in your contract.

This does not mean their program cannot work for you.  Obviously, they are still in business so there must be plenty of satisfied clients, but make sure that you understand the level of financial commitment LA Weight Loss Centers require before joining.

I tried multiple times to reach a live representative at LA Weight Loss Centers (1-800-331-4035).  Each time I received a recorded message that no one was available to take my call, and a request to leave my own contact information for a return phone call.  So I contacted two local franchises in California.  I asked the question if they accepted, or had special programs for diabetics (type 1 and 2).  I was told yes I could join, but no special programs or support for diabetics, yet their program is "diabetic friendly for everyone."  Neither representative understood the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes management of dietary needs.

Both calls resulted in contacting persons who were very aggressive, trying to convince me to just come in and sign up.  They would offer little information over the phone about their program (I would receive full details in my free appointment/consultation).

Pluses

Some of their programs may offer rebates to those that meet their goal and maintain their weight loss within 5 lbs.  Ask about details to make sure you have clear understanding of the requirements and what recourse you have if there is a dispute.

They offer one-on-one support, and a fairly flexible meal program that lets you eat from a variety of foods.  (Drawback is their heavy emphasis on the need to purchase their supplements).

For those who are shy about weighing in at group meetings, LA Weight Loss features private weigh-ins.
