National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri - Improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney and urinary tract diseases, as well as providing emotional support to transplant recipients and donor families, is at the heart of the Patient Services Program. United Way of Wyandotte County, Kansas - Lists dozens of local nonprofit assistance organizations for residents of Kansas. American Red Cross, Wyandotte County Chapter 24-hour emergency response and health and safety education; immediate help for disaster and fire victims; emergency worldwide communications and assistance for military families; free smoke detectors; fire safety education, first aid, CPR, lifeguard training, health screenings, emergency first aid stations, HIV prevention education. Associated Youth Services A community
based non-profit organization which exists to help youth and their families
become productive, effective members of their community through the provision of
the following programs: foster care, temporary/emergency shelter, drug and
alcohol treatment and prevention, alternative education, employment training and
community health/growing healthy youth. Bethel Neighborhood Center Helping people to help themselves. Services include senior meal program, senior activities, after-school and summer youth programs, food pantry, diaper & baby formula, notary public, promise site for Kansas City's Promise, health clinic and community nurse. Funded Programs: Youth Enrichment Programs; Family Education; Senior Adult Program Cancer Action, Inc. Cancer Action provides direct services and emotional support to cancer patients and their families in the Kansas City area. Programs and services include case management, support groups, Spanish-speaking support group, educational programs and information, resource library, emotional support, transportation to medical appointments, prescription assistance, in-home care, nutritional supplements, wigs, turbans, breast prosthesis, medical equipment and supplies, incontinent supplies and comfort items. Funded Programs: Community Education; Patient Services Program; Volunteer Program Catholic Charities/Community Services in Kansas Services provided to individuals of all ages and religious backgrounds: emergency assistance centers; in-home support services for the elderly; Home Health, Hospice, counseling for individuals and families; employment services for refugees; adoption and pregnancy counseling; child care for children with special needs; refugee resettlement; special needs for adoption and food pantries. El Centro, Inc. El Centro maintains educational, social and economic opportunities for families. The Family Conservancy Services to strengthen families and to assist persons of all ages through information, education and intervention. Franklin Children's Center, Inc. Franklin Children's Center is a Smart Start Kansas funded preschool providing early care and education services for children age 6 weeks to 6 years of age. The center offers rich opportunities for physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Early Head Start and Head Start services are available. FCC has scholarship tuition assistance available to qualifying families. (As this center receives state funding they must accept students with disabilities.) Kansas Legal Services Legal advice and representation to Johnson County, Leavenworth, Miami, Linn, Franklin and Wyandotte County residents in civil cases. Priorities are age 60 and older, in greater socioeconomic need, emphasis on domestic violence, housing tenant rights, social security disability, public entitlement cases and mediation. Mt. Carmel Community Outreach Ministries Organization provides services in a holistic manner to individuals of all ages in KCK: emergency food assistance; utility assistance; rent assistance; case management; transitional housing; budget and nutrition counseling; crisis intervention; information and referral; senior citizen's club; youth education/leadership development initiatives; support program for individuals recovering from substance abuse; life skills; home ownership training; tutorial and mentoring programs. The Salvation Army (Wyandotte County) Emergency Assistance Family Services; Day Care Center; 24-hour Homeless Family Shelter (1 to 90 days); Sunbeams, Girl Guards and Adventure Corps; Disaster Services; Summer Camping for all ages; Substance Abuse programs including : Detox, Intermediate Care, Reintegration, 3/4 House, Continuing Care and Outpatient Day Treatment, Counseling and Diagnostic Referral; Senior Citizen's Club Activities; Shut-in services; Family Worship Center; Supportive Housing Village for senior citizens and handicapped persons. Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas Promotes physical, mental and social well being of older adults, assisting them to maintain their dignity, productivity and independence. Providing a range of programs and services to support the needs of older adults. Vaughn Trent Community Services, Inc. Emergency assistance center for low-income residents of Kansas U.S.D. 204 school district. Provides food, clothing and utility assistance. Visiting Nurse Association The not-for-profit Visiting Nurse Association Corporation provides intermittent home health care services in the comfort and convenience of a patient's own home during a time of medical need and under physician's orders. VNA's services include nursing care; physical, occupational and speech therapy; social service and dietary counseling, cardio pulmonary care, infusion therapy, mental health and enterostomal therapy. Screenings which include blood pressure and blood sugar, are offered in addition to education and referrals to appropriate agencies.
