Places to buy cheap diabetes supplies, medications, and insulin
Hock's offers 30-50% discounted prices on diabetes supplies. We cannot specifically recommend or endorse any company but we have been listing Hock's in our resource directory for over a year as one of the two cheapest online companies to purchase from. We recently affiliated with Hock's because our own experience with them has been so positive. If you do place an order through our site, they will contribute financially towards our cause and you will get reasonable prices for diabetes supplies.
We are not affiliated with any company listed on this page unless specifically noted and we do not receive any commissions or referrals or in any way benefit if you purchase from any of these companies unless otherwise stated.
Online Discount Diabetes Care Supplies & Prescription Medicine
The following sites do not offer assistance programs, but for those who have to pay full-price their prices are so much cheaper than others we thought it worth a mention:
American Diabetes Wholesalers - They do not have assistance programs but they sell diabetes supplies online at near-wholesale prices. In comparison shopping with many other online suppliers we could find no other company with better prices. (If you do, please, send is the company name and full URL to the website. We'd love to pass the information along to our readers!)
Hocks Online Pharmacy - Sells many items in bulk for discounts but their stock varies. Some of their prices are cheaper or comparable to American Diabetes Wholesalers (above). Look at both sites to compare prices for the items you are shopping for, read fine print about bulk and expiration dates.
While we cannot recommend a specific company, IOH has made and been happy with purchases from Hocks. (See Hocks ad in sidebar for more detail. Note: IOH does NOT receive any compensation whatsoever for any clicks or sales to Hocks through our site and they are not an affiliate of IOH.)
In-Store Pharmacy Purchases for Insulin and Diabetes Supplies
Costco Stores - Costco stores only mark-up the cost of their drugs by 14-15%. You do not have to be a member of the Costco Buying Club to use their pharmacy. To the best of our knowledge, they offer some of the lowest prices on brand prescription drugs of all major retailers but they are no longer offering their $4.00 generic drug program. You can review their prices online at the Costco Website.
Target - To keep up with Wal-Mart's prescription program Target has also launched a cheap drugs campaign, also offering certain generic drugs (.pdf file like) for only $4.00 per 30-day supply. The programs are so similar it may pay to simply save gas and choose whichever store (Target or Wal-Mart) is closer to you.
Walgreens - While they do not have cheap prices on insulin and test strips, they do run sales almost weekly where you can get free blood glucose meters (with mail in rebate from Walgreens or manufacturer) and often have one brand of meter on sale each week for $10-$20.00.
Walmart - Sad that they hurt mom and pop shops, but Wal-Mart offers a diabetes awareness program to their employees and a new drug program that benefits many. Their $4.00 prescription program currently covers almost 300 medications and the rate is available to those with or without insurance who have a doctor's prescription that permits generic substitution. Medicines available include some used to treat and manage conditions including allergies, cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. The program also includes some antibiotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics and prescription vitamins are also included.
Reddy's Pharmacy in Richmond, VA has decided to match the Wal-Mart program and also now offers $4.00 generic drugs.
