Alabama Health Insurance Plan (AHIP) - Phone 1-877-513-1384 or 334-833-5900

AHIP is a state-run, high-risk insurance pool for those who may otherwise be considered "uninsurable" for an individual policy due to a medical condition.  However, unlike many other states which offer high risk pools to all qualifying residents, in Alabama you must be HIPPA eligible to apply to the AHIP.

Alabama Insurance Department - (334) 269-3550.  If you have insurance and have not been able to resolve problems with coverage with your insurance policy provider, file a complaint with the Alabama Insurance Department.

All Kids (State Children’s Health Insurance Program) - (888) 373-5437
All Kids is a health insurance program for children and teens (up to age 19). Children whose families have too great an income to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford health insurance may qualify for this program.  Read the All Kids program guidelines to find out if you or your child meets the income guidelines.   Alabama All Kids Program Guidelines (PDF).

SOBRA Medicaid Program - is a medical assistance program which helps Alabama caregivers pay medical bills for children under 19. Call 800-362-1504 for more information.

Alabama Department of Public Health -  is a state-funded program designed to provide cash assistance to low-income caregivers who do not qualify for federally funded programs. The mailing address is 201 Monroe Street, P.O. Box 303017, Montgomery, AL 36130-3017, the telephone number is 334-206-5396.

Alabama Family Assistance - The Family Assistance Program provides financial assistance to meet basic needs for families with a dependent child under age 18 or age 19 if s/he is a full time student in a secondary school or in the equivalent level of vocational or technical training.  Income requirements and other restrictions apply.

Alabama Unemployment Insurance - Unemployment insurance benefits provide temporary financial assistance to workers unemployed through no fault of their own that meet Alabama's eligibility requirements

Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program  - The Weatherization Program is designed to save energy and enhance the self-sufficiency of low-income families by helping them to reduce their home heating and cooling bills.  Income limitations and other restrictions apply.
